Compatible with (but not limited to) the Lenovo IBM ThinkPad X40 and X41.

In RunCore's pursuit of the ultimate solid state drive (SSD) upgrade, a full new line of SSD products have been developed, boosting computer performance 5x to 40x. The RunCore Pro IV SSDs provide speed increases in startup, application launch, multitasking between programs, opening/rendering/saving large files, and shutdown. The RunCore PRO IV SSD also offers silent operation, longer battery life, heat reduction, reliability, and durability making it the perfect solution for all applications.

The revolutionary new SSD design not only boosts your sustained performance but it also focuses on random small file Read and Write speeds, the speeds that create bottle necks in current and past PATA, SATA HDDs, and some SSDs. With Operating system and application consisting of thousands of small files, the RunCore Pro IV SSD can process these files at nearly 10X write and 50X read while creating a more efficient and satisfying user experience.

RunCore Pro IV 1.8" PATA IDE SSD incorporates advanced flash controller and NAND flash memory technology to deliver a state-of-the-art, non-volatile mass storage device. It supports capacity from 16GB to 128GB. 1.8" IDE SSD contains the cache size of up to 64MB with maximum transfer rate as high as 80MB/s. Furthermore, its characteristics of low power consumption and anti-vibration are obvious.

1.8" ZIF SSD as standard PATA driver, which supports all major operating systems such as Windows 9X/Me/NT/XP/CE/Vista/Windows7, MAC, Linux and Unix, Solaris, Vxworks. With no moving parts and seek time, 1.8" ZIF SSD does not need to spin up into action or to seek files in the way that traditional hard disk drives do - enabling it to work much faster. It supports capacity from 16GB to 128GB with maximum transfer rate as high as 85MB/s. Therefore, it is an ideal storage device for commercial users' mobile PC.

The upgrade package includes a High Speed USB 2.0 HDD case and cables to clone your existing drive and turn it into an external USB drive, a 15 Day Free Trial of Acronis Migrate Easy for PC and Carbon Copy Cloner for Mac, a screwdriver, stickers, and any additional specific cables necessary for installation.

Product is good - instructions aren't

I used a whole day trying to install the product to an old IBM X40. The reason to most of my problems was the HD case which was poorly made both of mechanics and electronics. The SSD didn't fit to the case well and it didn't work properly in the case. The SSD didn't read well and didn't write at all. I changed the case to another and SSD started to work well. Those who are willing to test their luck: Connect the mini USB to the SSD last. If the order is different the machine does not recognize the SSD.

The cloning software worked well, but I had difficulties installing the SSD in place. The positioning of the SSD' pinning differs a bit from the pinning of the original HD, so I had to left the screws nearest pinning off. After that I managed to put the SSD in place. The firs experiences have been well. The IBM X40 have speeded up significantly.

X41 Resurection - I am HEALED!

The original HDD on the X41 T is admittedly crappy even by IBM techs. This SSD gives this machine ludicrous speed capabilities. This machine went from being a full time Magic Jack answering machine to my full time travel companion because of the Runcore SSD. Running Windows 7 with absolutely no issues. Booyeah X41 rocks! Check out this bootup video:

64Gb runcore ssd for ibm x40 / Windows XP

This SSD has indilinx controller and firmware version 1916 with TRIM support and garbage collection, e.g. should work fine with Windows XP. I used Acronis software and the included usb-case to replicate the hard disk. The usb-case is not of very good quality, but works. After replication and switching of the HD to SSD the X40 booted without problems. CrystalDiskMark showed following speeds for the SSD (read/write). Sequential: 84.70/78.85 MB/s, 512 Kb: 80.03/78.62 MB/s, 4Kb: 23.54/11.58 MB/s. There is a very noticeable improvement in the Windows speed, quite happy with the purchase so far.

No good for Thinkpad X40/X41
June 27th 2010 Verified user
I bought RunCore 64Gbyte drives instead of KingSpec since the advert say the RunCore is compatible with Thinkpad X41.

Well, I wonder if anyone ever has tried,

I tryed to mount this drive in some X40/X41 drive bay and the RunCore fitted nowhere.

After dismounting one X41 I found the reason. The housing on the drive gets in contact with an EMC cover inside the X41 and it is not possible to engage the connector at all.
After modifications inside the X41 I managed to install one of the drives finally.
I installed Windows 7 and some drivers. The whole time the system was extremely unreliable and I had several system freeze and BSOD. I have then spent some time to get the system to work stably without success.
Compare with several other X40/X41 which I has installed Windows 7 on using the 32GB KingSpec drives where I never have had any problems at all.
