HDD replacement for iRiver H140
February 27th 2017 Verified user
Purchased the 64GB KingSpec 1.8" IDE CF 50-pin SSD to replace the 40GB HDD in a rockboxed iRiver H140. The new drive fits perfectly and works flawlessly. Here are the steps needed to carry out the replacement:
1. Connect the iRiver to a computer and copy the .rockbox directory from it to the computer
2. Open the iRiver, pull the old HDD off the connector (may need to unstick it gently from the rubber mat beneath it first)
3. Push the new SSD fully onto the connector and reassemble the iRiver
4. Boot the iRiver into iRiver firmware and connect to the computer
5. Reformat the SSD as FAT32 and copy across the .rockbox directory saved under 1.
6. Disconnect and restart the player - it should boot straight into rockbox.

Replaced the original HDD in my broken iPod 4th generation with this. After formatting, iTunes restored it and it works better than ever.

Used for iAudio X5L Mod
February 9th 2015 Verified user
I used this SSD in my iAudio X5L MP3-Player to replace the standard 32GB HDD (also works with the X5).
This SSD has the same size and pin interface which is used in this player, so no further modification was needed, just switch this SSD with the old HDD.
Next step was to format the SSD to Fat32 with the Fat32Formatter software and install the latest Rockbox firmware.
Works like a charm - double storage space, longer battery life and faster access times.
I'm heavily using it for a month now, and it works as it should!
And thanks to memoryC I got a good price and fast shipping.

It works with the iRiver H300s
February 20th 2013 Verified user
I bought this to upgrade my iRiver H320 player from the original 20G HDD to a 64GB SSD. This was listed as a replacement and it works in the player, however not with the original iRiver firmware, only with the standard Rockbox upgrade. I use Rockbox anyway, so it was a great result.
It is of course faster and easier on the battery. It comes formatted for NTFS, so I just needed to format the drive for FAT32 using Swissknife. I also bought the USB case for this drive (item 12266). This made it a lot easier to work with as I could prepare the SSD before trying to install it in the H320.

great replacement of my mp3 player

Ideal to replace the mechanical hard drive on my mp3 player (IHP-140 operating in Rockbox firmware). No need to flash the firmware of the mp3 player with an experimental bootloader, it works perfectly with the official Rockbox bootloader.
