This SATA III Solid State Disk is manufactured by Transcend, one of the world leaders in memory and storage products. The MTS400 M.2 NGFF SSD is suitable for many ultrabooks, tablets and other compact devices where space is at a premium.
And just because this is an ultra-compact SSD, it does not mean it does not perform just as well as larger SSDs - in fact, with the SATA III 6Gbps interface it can achieve read speeds up to 560MB/sec and write speeds up to 460MB/sec.
The MTS400 SSD is an 42mm form factor SSD, built using premium MLC NAND chips for optimum performance and reliability. Added features include DevSleep mode, S.M.A.R.T., TRIM, NCQ, and Power Shield.
Intel Smart Response TechnologyTranscend's SATA III 6Gb/s MTS400 M.2 SSD supports Intel® Smart Response Technology (ISRT), which allows you to configure your computer system with an SSD used as cache memory between the hard disk drive and system memory. This provides the advantage of having a hard disk drive for maximum storage capacity while delivering an SSD-like overall system performance experience.
ISRT works by monitoring which programs and files you access most frequently and stores them on the SSD. As a result, application launch speed and overall system responsiveness are significantly improved, while the large capacity of the hard drive is free to store all your other programs and files. In this configuration, only one drive letter is displayed; no additional drive letter is required for the SSD used as cache.

Expensive in comparison to better performing and larger capacity M.2 2280 devices, but as my machine did not support the longer module, I was stuck with this. Performance has dramatically improved, as expected, over the 5.2K SATA disk that was my boot device previously.
I would recommend this product if you only have the space for the 42mm M.2 modules.

Speed + low cost while maintaining storage capacity

For those who have a lenovo T440p like me and want to increase performance without losing space this product is excellent. I use ubuntu 15.10 where the "/" partition is running on the SSD and the "/ home" partition on the original HDD.
